SCHOOL PROGRAMME - ensuring every child matters

You name it – Whoops! delivers it, with safety in mind and using hard-hitting, but fun resources to get the messages across. The programmes are designed for children from Key Stages 1-4 and Whoops! reaches up to 6,000 school children each year.

Schools can request single sessions or programmes can be tailor-made for your school, including roadshows; enabling several classes to receive a particular session over the course of a day. In addition to the general school sessions programme, Whoops! have developed particular topical initiatives, specifically for children.

School safety sessions programme including:

  • Personal Safety
  • Road Safety
  • Rail/Metro Safety
  • Water/Beach Safety
  • Firework Safety
  • Building Site Safety

Bullying/Buddying Initiative

This 4 week programme is a comprehensive buddying initiative, offering a whole school approach to tackle bullying, involving all pupils, parents, teachers and others connected with the care of school children. The focus is a drama-based assembly, introducing the concept supported by a teacher pack, including activities linked to the National Curriculum, a parent leaflet offering advice on detecting the signs of bullying and what to do about it, and the implementation of a buddying programme.

Older children are recruited and trained to act as playground friends offering advice to other children and distributing playground games, culminating in the unveiling of a buddy bench for the playground.

Life skills for Kids

Life skills for Kids is a 4-6 week programme of classroom based activities using innovative, creative and artistic methods to leave memorable safety messages with children. The sessions cover personal, social, health, education and citizenship modules in a primary school setting and will complement current government agendas and “healthy school” awards. The programme finishes with a trip to the Safety Works centre to enable children to visually see the
hazards first hand.

Life skills for Kids includes tailored safety initiatives from the Whoops! portfolio and is delivered in-school to timescales agreed with each organisation. Community sessions for parents and carers can also be delivered within the school.

Anti-Social Behaviour & Fear of Crime

A problem that many communities have to deal with on a daily basis is the “fear of crime” and “fear of teenagers”. This initiative for children at Key Stage 3 looks at the incidence and consequences of anti-social behaviour of both adults and older children. Sessions are aimed at raising awareness of social responsibilities, fear of crime and personal safety, with an emphasis on building relationships between generations.

A specially developed teaching resource pack and DVD are available and Whoops! can train groups of teaching staff to deliver the programme within their schools.
